GIGO, or, Astrological Accuracy Depends on Correct Birth Information

Lately I’ve been seeing different comments and posts from people who just realized they had the wrong birth time for themselves or even the wrong astrological sun sign. This reminded me of an old saying I learned years ago in computer class called Garbage In, Garbage Out. Bad data leads to bad results.

I understand that it is not possible for everyone to find out their birth time or even obtain a copy of their birth certificate due to many factors. However, for most people, it would be worth the effort to find the “Long Form” version of your birth certificate. This version would have additional details recorded by the hospital that may not be shown on your birth certificate by default, such as weight at birth, time of birth and place of birth for both parents. There is no guarantee how much of this information will be available to you, but if it was recorded by the hospital, it’s likely to be on this document. Year and location of birth matters as older births may have this data missing. However, it’s worth a try.

States such as Minnesota no longer provide a “Long Form”. Instead you have to request both a birth certificate and a non-certified birth record which combined provide the information they have on file. States such as Alaska, Wisconsin and Florida partner with the company Vitalchek dot com and it’s very easy to request it online. You can also request a copy in person (if you were born in that state) via the state vital records office (sorry, but I have no information on how it’s done outside the U.S.)

  • How to Find Someone’s Birthday?

    How to Find Someone’s Birthday?

As someone interested in astrology, how does one find yours or someone else’s birth information in order to create a natal chart for analysis? Here are some suggestions for where to look.

Ask parents, family, friends or others who may have been around for the birth at the time.

Call the hospital if they still exist and ask where they keep the records.

Department of Vital Records (State or County)

    Interviews

Social Media (it’s my birthday! On Facebook, Twitter (X), etc)

The comment section on articles, videos, etc.

Data brokers (this could include LexisNexis, etc)

    Historical record

Birth announcements in the newspaper (especially older people)

    Books, news articles, etc

An astrological database of notable births such as the Astro Databank

Example: Some years back, I was watching a video on YouTube by a popular astrologer about President Vladimir Putin and his alleged transits for the near future. A commenter advised that she was not using his correct birthday. I know from looking at historical records that past US presidents have called him on his birthday, October 7. Putin’s official biography lists his birthday as October 7 1952. I made the assumption that the date is correct but the year is in question. He and I commented back and forth and I found an article with an interview he was referencing with Vladimir Putin’s mom (allegedly). Below are a few snippets from the article:

    excerpt from the linked article

Even though we don’t have solid proof that this is Vladimir Putin’s real mother, I’m inclined to believe her side of the story. In a future post, we will take a look at Putin’s supposed real chart and attempt to make some predictions.
